Flippers

Flippers, the Japanese soufflé pancake cake house with restaurants in Tokyo,(Shibuya neighborhood), and New York (So Ho), opened a Los Angels location on the border of Hollywood and West Hollywood. Comprised exclusively of outdoor seating, the patio and landscape stylings were essential. As an international brand coming to Los Angeles, the leading style elements were meant to celebrate the brand as well as the restaurant’s location of Hollywood, Los Angles, California. With its signature white and yellow color scheme and warm, modern aesthetic, we referenced Hollywood iconography including Los Angles’s famous palm trees. Other design elements came from the midcentury landscapes of Palm Springs, celebrating the culture of outdoor dining across southern California. I worked with a team of designers to create an inviting space that incorporates sparse sculptural plantings and fun mural work, with architectural elements that make the space work for people to enjoy some really fluffy pancakes.
